A total of 308.7 million mobile devices that includes phones, tablets and notebooks were shipped worldwide in the Q1 of this year alone, which is a near 37 percent increase from last year, according to Canalys. Of these, 216.3 million were smartphones with Android leading the race in terms of OS with a 75.6 percent market share.Samsung stays way ahead of the rest accounting for nearly a third of the total number of Android smartphones shipped, with Huawei, LG and ZTE following way back with less than 5 percent of the market.
Apple, on the other hand, still accounts for a healthy 17 percent of the market share.Tablets, of the three, still continue to grow the fastest with worldwide shipments touching 41.9 million units which is a near 106.1 percent growth. Apple with its iPads still continues to rule this segment with a 46.4 percent market share, though the report says Android is slowly corroding away at its share. This statistic stays consistent with a report released by IDC, which too said that Apple continued to be ahead of its rivals, shipping 19.5 million tablets and followed by Samsung that shipped 8.8 million units
